Join us for a special evening with author Matson Taylor, celebrating his latest novel, Roman Mornings.
Matson will be in conversation with one of our booksellers, discussing the story behind the book, his writing process and the journey of bringing Roman Mornings to life. We’ll also explore the process of getting a novel ready for publication, from the writing and editing to the all-important cover design. There will be plenty of opportunity for audience questions too, so come along with anything you’d like to ask!
Set in the enchanting streets of Trastevere, Roman Mornings is a warm, funny and uplifting story about homecoming, friendship, love, loss and the possibility of starting again.
In 1952, young Englishwoman Clementine Severs arrives in Rome with a teaching certificate and enough idealism to fill a host of Grecian urns. By 1976, her youthful dreams have faded, but a chance encounter involving an angel and a speeding mint-green Vespa brings her into the life of troubled young carpenter Montgomery Marsh. Together, they embark on a magical journey through the Eternal City in search of fresh hope and a new way of living.
Full of eccentric characters, talking cats, coming-to-life statues and the irresistible atmosphere of Rome, Roman Mornings is a celebration of the transformative power of friendship and the places that can help us find our way home.
Described by Sarah Winman as “an enchanting novel of homecoming and belonging”, and praised by The Times for treating its characters with “infectious affection”, this is an evening not to be missed for fans of heartfelt, characterful fiction.
Come along to meet Matson, hear more about the making of Roman Mornings, and perhaps take a little of Rome’s magic home with you.
